For this week’s #MemberMonday, we’re introducing you to Marcia, a full-time traveler from Brazil and our East Bushwick and Bushwick house leader. Read on to find out what she’s doing now that she’s free to travel the world.
I’m a translator and full-time traveler from Brazil. Three years ago I sold everything I had, gave up on the idea of renting an apartment long-term and went out to discover the world. I try to stay at least 6 months in each country, so I haven’t been to too many places yet, but I’m in no rush whatsoever.
I love the sense of community between everyone at Outpost, and the fact we have creative minds from all over the world coming together in these beautiful houses in New York is really something special. Also, the events are always so interesting! I want to go to as many as I can.
My instagram handle (@_BKbound_) says it all: It doesn’t matter where I am in the world -- I’m always thinking of going back to Brooklyn. So, it’s really impossible to pick just one favorite place: I love catching a late night movie at Nitehawk Cinema; going to Red Hook when I’m craving some key-lime pie; thrift shopping at all the L Train Vintage stores; working remotely from the beautiful Brooklyn Public Library; eating at the many amazing Latino restaurants when I want to reconnect with my roots … You have a different thing to do every day and night and this is what I love the most about Brooklyn.
I’m the house leader for the Bushwick and East Bushwick houses, which is the coolest gig in the world because I’ve been able to meet amazing people and try to make their lives easier from the moment they get to the city. Apart from that, I’m a localization curator for a GIF company, and I do subtitling and research for a streaming company. I’m also trying to work on some photography and writing projects.
